Where to train capoeira in London (2026)
Capoeira in London is alive. Across the city — from south London to east London, north to west — there are grupos teaching weekly classes, holding open rodas and welcoming beginners. Here's how to find your home.
South London
Brixton, Croydon, Streatham and Peckham have some of the longest-running capoeira presences in the city. Most grupos run beginner-friendly classes on weekday evenings, with a Sunday open roda once a month. If you're in CR7 or nearby, Capoeira in Motion is based here in Croydon — message us and we'll point you to a class.
East London
Hackney, Bethnal Green and Walthamstow host several active grupos covering Regional, Contemporânea and Angola lineages. Community centres and dance studios run drop-in classes, usually £8–£15.
North & West London
Camden, Kentish Town and Notting Hill have long-standing capoeira schools, often connected to Brazilian cultural centres. Many run kids' classes alongside adult sessions, making them good options for families.
Finding a class
- Search Instagram for #capoeiralondon and #capoeirauk — most grupos post their schedule there.
- Meetup.com lists open rodas and beginner sessions.
- Reach out to us at Capoeira in Motion — we'll connect you with grupos near your postcode.
What to wear to your first class
Most grupos accept any white t-shirt and comfortable trousers for your first class. Once you commit, you'll need an abadá in your grupo's colours. We stock UK-made capoeira pants and tees — start with our London apparel page.
Axé, and welcome to the roda.
